In Portugal Monday is Segunda-feira, and means second day. Sunday is Domingo. This is because to catholics Sunday is the most importan day in the week. So not only some people belive this ;)

For Islamic calendar, new day starts at sunset, around 7 pm (summer), 5pm (winter). The calendar is lunar after all... Are you going to middle east?

Muslims and Jews traditionally have the day end whenever the sun goes goes down, which makes at least as much sense as any other way to do it.
