This is correct -- the touchbar is bad design. I'm still accidentally triggering random actions after 6 months of use. The thing is, having a fixed keyboard layout that doesn't change on you and that you can use without looking is a feature. Tactile feedback is a feature. And these are important features! You can't take important features away without providing any clear value in return
I've seen people defend it but it's always someone with a decade+ of technical experience who spent a week learning how to customize it.
I find the context-specific features work well (e.g. video and sound editing) + touch login, but it's a poor replacement for proper Esc and function keys

No one with the vision of Steve Jobs to slap some sense into the designers who apparently are too hide bound to be truly creative or management too afraid of being radical. Apple should fix the friggin keyboard too. I have spent too much time typing on the wrong row of keys.
Worst UX design ever. I have to press the touchbar twice and then slide the volume bar to change volume. in a regular keyboard you just press volume + or - to instantly change volume up or down.
It's like this was solely designed to increase sales of bluetooth keyboards

Apple never did user testing per se, apart from internal ones. I find it handy though.
