What people think starts with who they think they are -- their identity, their goals, their self-interest. From there, they form compatible opinions and worldviews. From these, they reason back to (selective) facts and data. It's rarely the other way around.

yup this is especially relevant for LGBTQIA people! the selective choice of facts and data from the past I've heard called "the queering of our personal history" and it's a really important step in processing.

this has happened since the age of the internet, not before. Before that, people were forced to digest content

Imho, what people think starts with what they attend to, which is certainly personal. Attention seems the root of perception & thought formation. We think about what we focus on. Thoughts are then informed by many things & can be shifted to change how the brain processes info.

If I worked on team with you all, I’d go out to lunch more often (vs eat at my desk). People I’ve worked with are part “sports team blah free agent blah” and other part “I don’t like the guy but trump does make some good points”. I need more “blow my mind” & less “melt my brain”

Anchor and adjust. It sure does take a lot of courage to be more flexible off the core. Any tips on how to help people understand that discomforting data can’t hurt them personally?
