Having formal decision systems (i.e. AI), that are transparent, possibly interpreted by humans, frequently patched, may be the future of governance. We've been using a rather immature version of this very system for judicial decisions. Extending it to economic policy isn't crazy.
Replacing personal human power with formal rules that are known to all and for which there is an update mechanism meant to represent the will of the people is the essence of the rule of law. And the rule of law is the better government system so far. AI is just an extension.
But what if they hack our government :P

That's not how societies evolve. Judiciary needs to stay in equal power.
AI *can* be an extension, but how it is done makes all the difference
boundary cases likely still need human oversight, but AI can remove drudgery of routine portions based on codified rules subject to auditing & corrective feedback

Law 101, laws are not perfect and as such it is the spirit and intent in the creation of the law that is taken into consideration to identify and properly deal with the exceptions. Can AI be made to properly deal with this?
