Technological and scientific progress is driven much less by curiosity or idealism than by competition and conflict. Historically, most advances have military origins. This, too, says something about intelligence

To develop intelligence, we need an advanced sensorimotor space and a complex & challenging environment. For humans, intra-species competition provides the latter. The bottleneck of our intelligence is not our brain (which is flexible & optimizable), but everything surrounding it

...let's NOT use our competitive nature which quickly turns into violence and income inequality, as a basis for designing Artifical General Intelligence. 🤦‍♂️

Are animals also bottlenecked in this way? I imagine that lack of dexterous hands can be a significant disadvantage that keeps the possible action space simple.

So we just need a body for the AI and a interesting space for it to play in. How meta.

We’ve used such genetic algorithms (evolution, elitism,PSO) before but it seems not as promising sheerly because of the size of the search space. But competition was used to great effect in @DeepMindAI ‘s development of AlphaStar. Do you think AGI will follow on from GA, not NNs?

I think intelligence is not just the result of physical matter and enviromental interaction. The fact that the world is amazingly intelligible (otherwise science would noy make sense) points to an intelligence that is the root of ours, and hence beyond just physical reality.

Intraspecies competition is brutal. Technology has to be made capable to sharing and regulating the resources fairly. Its time to change our environment to help us humans evolve into healthy beings. Competition against ourselves is a pyrrhic victory.

The world needs harmony and freedom, a ground to explore their curious and creative endeavors. Not fear and a fight for survival!

Alternative to BD Atlas? Even MIT folks aren’t brave enough to run any RL on Atlas. Humanoid and Ant gyms are unrealistic. japanese fighting robots like Kondo KHR-3HV are pretty fast, pretty cheap (under USD 1500), but they are not popular in RL community...
