Absolutely, very well taken. More could probably be added. This is why we need an inter-disciplinary effort in the field of AI. Data will not "sort itself out" for most interesting and relevant problems (with long tails) like medicine. We need math + domain knowledge

The most important topic for AGI is the behaviour of our mental software. Some kind of "thought / intelligence science" . How do I group 2 things. How do I symbolise 2 things etc etc. Model that and you have your AGI.

Today's academic culture does not incentive anything beyond mass published papers. Everybody is too busy to stop and think about the mathematics of what they are doing. Let alone its philosophy.

People start writing application for grants a year in advance- backed by zero effort in research . Academic research is all about writing now. It's just another business.
