One of the greatest tragedies of the 21st century is the stagnation and slow decline of nuclear power in most countries. It could have considerably reduced CO2 emissions.

No. Electricity in Germany is generated by burning coal. *This* is the alternative to nuclear.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_in_Germany#/media/File:Electricity_Production_in_Germany.svg …

Coal increases your chance of cancer as well! even faster for all employees working in the industry and neighborhoods!

In the short to mid term, it was definitely a stupid and emotional move. I feel my fellow Germans are often too paranoid about technology. They usually only ask "what if it goes wrong?".
-
Agreed. But what about long-term? Fossil or nuclear?

Countries should invest in Thorium reactors. We have enough stock pile of plutonium for nuclear deterrence, so we don't need reactors using uranium anymore. Thorium is much safer. (Ted talk in french : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0G8QxaYRds … )

Germans could use gas instead of coal which is far less expensive with less CO2. GE exec told me that 1 generator based on GE 9X (B-777 engine) can power 300,000 homes and such plants could be built quickly. One could model the CO2 emissions and cost using gas over coal.

no sources? nuclear GHG emissions is higher than gas https://theecologist.org/2015/feb/05/false-solution-nuclear-power-not-low-carbon … conducting LCA is great but lack of transparency makes it hard. You can pretty much find anything on renewables. Nuclear is expensive and not needed, DER + ADR + EE is the way to go, no easy way out

IPCC and NREL show life cycle CO2 emissions emissions from nuclear the same as wind. Nuclear is most definitely needed. Wind and solar are not going to cut out on their own
