There is an ongoing misconception that AI/ML are intrinsically valuable, and that therefore working in the field is bound to make you rich. A ML model is only as valuable as the problem it solves. ML without an application isn't worth anything (beyond intellectual curiosity).

With all due respect, I think this is utilitarian. It’s the reverse. If you’re in it for the money, fine, this is a good code. Otherwise, listen to inspiration, because passion also has a remarkable way of mediating towards the common Good.

So things like medicine, food production, food distribution, and climate change survival? Are you sure ML is ready for those things, in that they provide better-than-human solutions and justifications for less time/energy than it would cost humans to do so?
