There is an ongoing misconception that AI/ML are intrinsically valuable, and that therefore working in the field is bound to make you rich. A ML model is only as valuable as the problem it solves. ML without an application isn't worth anything (beyond intellectual curiosity).

Im actually glad africa has been so far behind in terms of application that any problem can be modelled using deep learning ... I have started investing in building prototypes that will probably mature in 2 to 3 years while I gain the requisite knowledge to make them robust

I'm deeply concerned about AI. Not because of machine taking over mankind, but mostly machine taking over economy. Wich has already began a few years ago.

The same can be told about software in general. I notice Software can be replaced with AI in most of the case. There is actually only a few beliefs very specific to AI.
