Remember that in the 70s and 80s we were supposed to reach strong AI by scaling up expert systems. Isn't human intelligence just an expert system with a really big ruleset and a really large knowledge base?

Are you paraphrasing DH? :) ‹AI has become too much like the man who tries to get to the moon by climbing a tree: “One can report steady progress, all the way to the top of the tree.”› — Douglas Hofstadterhttps://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2013/11/the-man-who-would-teach-machines-to-think/309529/ …

if you build a ladder where each step is twice the height of the previous step, you need only about 50 steps to reach the moon. however, if after a few good steps , every new step is only half the height of the previous step you can only get so far..

One of the biggest unconversed ideas in AI is the difference between science and enigineering. Science tells us gravity exists, engineering builds the rocket ships.

The public state of
#AI is scientific. Engineering is what will take AI from a novelty trick and Twitter topic to the real world. Forget ImageNet, think about#ApplicationX!
