Julian is right -- human intelligence is highly specialized, and can only operate within a very specific, limited scope: that of human experience. It is incorrect to point to the human mind as an example of "general intelligence".https://twitter.com/togelius/status/1120845364754571264 …

Replace AI or AGI by consciousness and it's more obvious why the goal we're trying to reach is pretty ill-defined.

I'm really curious about your views on artificial consciousness, please share some thoughts!

Does this mean AI researchers should try to be more thoughtful, self conscious, and resourceful about the concepts their research programs are trying to drive towards? I dare say there are some disciplines out there with engaging with on the issue of what are“human-level” things

Human-level intelligence is general intelligence. The other fantastic concept you refer to is the singularity. It's like the infinity in maths.

Kind of a "Turing-esc" view. Intelligence is not precisely defined. Thus, don't measure it in itself, compare it to what exists.

I’m not sure if I agree. How do you explain humans developing general relativity theory and quantum mechanics with a brain optimized for a completely different task. Can you even get more general than that?

Seconded

We stuck with the term intelligence while we were attempting to describe consciousness. Intelligence itself is a dimension of consciousness. If we want to create human experience at a machine, intelligence itself won’t solve this puzzle.

Thinking outside the cartesian paradigm could be really helpful here. Just like thought itself isn’t define an entity, intelligence itself won’t be defining a conscious machine.

We can always try to made AI that can solve problems outside human experience, then limitation of human intelligence does not transfer to AI intelligence. Also AGI is bad concept, because it is unfalsifiable. We can't check the space of all possible AIs to search for AGI.
