That's why I prefer talking about "strong AI" or "human-level AI", rather than "AGI", which is a made-up science-fiction idea already discredited by the available evidence.

Is it simply "general" in the way a small concentric circle is much smaller than the grand possible space of concentric circles? Indeed, a human's "circle" will have vertices where we are specialized and adapted in certain domains. But nonetheless we could be general still.

But isnt that what ppl mean when they say general intelligence...as in being able to do different tasks that humans are good at, without needing to be all possible tasks in all environments? Maybe calling it broad intelligence might be a good compromise.

So calling human intelligence "general intelligence" would be the cognitive science equivalent of placing the earth at the center of the solar system, and of the universe ?

Bad analogy. It's the equivalent of using our knowledge of the solar system and applying it to other star systems. Octopuses are another kind of general intelligence, yet in this case we don't have artificial systems that compare in their capabilities.

True, but because of how seemingly complex human experience is, the issue of generalization is still a valid research topic. The challenge for AI is to be able to generalize within the scope of human experience.
