An interesting business dynamic: the bigger the company, the harder it becomes for it to compete on UX. I believe this is due to 1) gradually losing focus (more decision-makers, more user segments), 2) increased employee specialization leading to falling out of touch with users.
This leads to a natural anti-monopoly mechanism: no matter how much resources the incumbents have, there's always room for a better product. Zoom is a great example of this.

Uh, nice try....Google isn't going to lose its 93% search engine market share because of a scrappy startup's sweet UX ideas. A product is a lot more than just its UX.
After using hangouts & zoom; I still prefer the former any day for functionality & reliability. Advantage blown with deprecation, naming, mixed marketing msg, neglect, internal competition. Sad as a user & xoogler.
