These past few decades, there's been an ongoing cultural transition from "reach happiness by buying things" to "reach happiness by buying experiences". The mass market interpretation of the new trend seems almost just as superficial, consumerist, and bad for the planet as before

And in the Case of Assange, its how much does it cost for the people to know what their business of government is spending the people funding (taxes) on? And how the court system though funded by the taxpayers charges extra to bias and violate justice for those who pay the most.

Different people want different things May we see a new culture of magicians or creators interested in changing the world or creating something durable? The consequence could be mass frustration, if there is no consensus about the world we want to build http://www.soulcraft.co/essays/the_12_common_archetypes.html …

Shelter, food, water & clothing, always comes first, even in the shift to experiences. The utopia you speak of can't be accomplished until those needs are meet for the majority of humans. Excess & choice for those who have achieved the basics 4 is freedom...

It’s easier said than done; but achievable to be content with what we already have. I trust most people have more than needed. I’m educated my son to differentiate between what we want and what we need. For the experience, it is about living in the moment..feel it not snap it!

Brand are made by what people want, not the other was around. Religion is in the business of selling long term happiness and it doesn't seem to work very well nowadays. (And obviously, religions have there shortage. I'm sure there are modern alternatives.)

Great thread. Everyone can tell a story but brands know better how to market it and reach out to the majority influencing people and trends. The redistribution of wealth or even number of followers could be a step towards a meritocratic world but I bet the brands will ever agree

Are we in need of a branded messiah? ;-) Messiahs are the only storytellers I could think of who managed to disseminate their message at scale.

If you finance it, we’ll make the story. We’ll call it “Digital Physics 2: One With the Computer”?
