What would you be doing, if money weren't an object? And how would it change the people around you?

To be clear, "efficiently allocating human potential" does not mean "everyones does whatever they want". First, because your own tendencies may stand in the way of self-fulfillment. Second, because self-fulfillment is just one side of the equation. Society is the other side.

The fact that we're terrible at solving this is not an intrinsic flaw of markets as an abstraction. Those are actually great. It's all about our current implementation of them. Which follows a flawed value system.

Which economies do you have in mind? Not to say that universal free higher ed is good, but student debt in the US sure makes this hard. When you’re trying to pay down debt in your 20-30s, Ie the time of your life with most potential, you’re not taking on as much career risk

Actually, that’s not entirely true. Pursuit of one’s potential is really a personal choice - modern economies are great at giving everyone a fair chance to do something they’re good at, as long as it’s valuable to someone else.

People remain stuck in jobs that they don’t like either because if survival or because of greed. I understand the former and that’s can only be fixable by an increase in opportunity. The latter is something that can’t be fixed by economic system. It’s basic human nature.

I see your point, but not having a reference of value in terms of money could also distract people from what they’re supposed to be doing

Money is a reference of value in the current paradigm. As demonstrated by Kuhn, the best puzzle makers are elected. On the contrary, individuation is about developing own best talents by and for the network (aka the meshed society). Reference frames elect their utility functions.

I will make educational games and apps, and put them out for free. I actually like to see if DL can have an impact in this area. But I got to do what pay the bill now,
