When we think of the legacy of ancient civilizations, we tend to think of decaying monumental ruins. But the real legacy of these cultures isn't ruins or artefacts. It's ideas, values, languages and writing systems, stories, institutions, beliefs. It's us.

Our writing system is from the Romans, who adapted it from the Greeks, who adapted it from the Phoenicians... You can take pretty much any aspect of our lives and draw a uninterrupted genealogical path from here back to the lives of people who lived thousands of years ago

My favorite is tracing the 12 hours on the clock face + the 360 degrees on the compass back to the base-60 numbering system favored by the Sumerians.

The words asia and Europe also come from one assyrian carved stone indicating East (assur) and West (ur)

Also we do underestimate how much they had achieved and have accumulated knowledge using their ‘primitive’ techniques — some of the explanations given in 5000+yr old scriptures defies our understanding even today

It's really mind boggling when you think of the inherited social structures, culture, language, etc..

Never forget, several writing systems exist today Culture, writing systems,… may be more fields where US & China compete. English is easier, Hollywood reaches further,… US [companies] might have access to a larger (especially richer/more heterogeneous) than China

Importantly, US companies should forget about having "a culture", embrace a huge range of them that allows mixing, creating new better products & services There's value in that
