If you don't have a solid vision and strategy, it really doesn't matter how much more resources and effort you're investing compared to your competitors. You're not going to survive.

Basically, you have two kinds of problems: yourself, and the competition. The only problem you need to care about is the first one. If you solve it, the competition is nothing to worry about. If you don't, game over.

completely agree with your second point, that is the right mindset. regarding the first part, I'd say execution is at least as important as vision+strategy. that includes having tools/processes in place to monitor (and then optimize) execution.

Vision brings you everywhere you wanna to go. Execution is useless without vision.

Your self needs to be your customers and what your value proposition is to your customers. When your customer wins, you win. Competitors are then secondary, a matter of necessary situational awareness but not to be reactive to.
