I hope they train it with many pictures of a single test subject. If not, it’s literally making up fake data and has zero intrinsic value.

Not necessarily. Features outside the obscured regions might contain information that necessarily implies the structure of the hidden areas, given some assumptions. It probably won't be perfectly accurate, but it could be photorealistic and plausible.
