The most frustrating part is that their awfulness is single-handedly destroying the reputation of the tech industry. Please do not compare Facebook to Microsoft, or Amazon, or Google, or Apple. They are in a league of their own. No one else is even 10% as bad, not even Palantir.
At least we'll get one thing out of it: more regulations, and more pressure on everyone else to act ethically. Not a bad thing.

I don't understand this article/tweet. On my Samsung phone, the behavior is exactly the same with many other pre-installed apps such as Microsoft office, Gmail, Samsung health, etc. Smartphones come with pre-installed apps you can't delete, it's bad, but nothing specific to fb.
Indeed. The point here is that context matters. It's that sentence in the article : "it’s an especially egregious example given the company’s long and storied privacy hostile history." Given all the scandals and concerns aired, it is not a very wise move by FB.
