We have yearly estimates of average programmer output in LOC as well as total number of programmers in the world, so by integrating that over time we should get an approximate number (for manually written code at least)

Yes, that is exactly where I got to in the 90’s, but I came to feel that the parameters I had were becoming wildly inaccurate.
