People are made of layers, like an onion (or an ogre), each layer growing on top of the previous one. The deepest, thickest layers are from childhood. They may no longer be visible at all, but they still influence in profound ways everything that grew on top of them.

once you start peeling, you begin to realize all the layers were illusory to begin with! Including the layer that believes you are your body and your thoughts - the illusory “I”. Then what is left after all that?

It seems that for some traits - e.g. IQ - the effect of "childhood" is reduced with age, and hence genetic factors become more important. Makes you wonder if this is true also for other traits. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4270739/ …

Yo diría que esta oración - "people are made layers" - es una muy pobre metáfora de las estructuras y subestruras que conforman el todo de un ser humano como individuo y como colectividad. Es una evidente "deformación profesional" - aconsejo más lecturas heurísticas.

Probably why whacking ML/DL on some limited clinical data from hospitals collected in the last few years can't be used to improve long-term population health outcomes. Social determinants of health are likely key to understanding/improving the longevity of any social organism.
