I think a lot of the questions being asked in the media about "AI" are really questions about ourselves -- about humans and society -- that may not be relevant to machines for centuries.

That seems to miss the obvious mechanics at play currently. We already have generations of machines that have had a negative impact on the “usefulness” of humans in terms of dollars. It’s reasonable for humanity to fear their place in the realms of compensation at large.
