Without a strong moderator, forums can enter a feedback loop, gradually pushing out the more reasonable people and becoming increasingly toxic.
I have this theory that the higher the % male of a scientific sub-community, the more toxic it is. There are many good reasons men should want more women in tech, but there's also a very selfish one: it will make our field less awful.

I hope this cult of culturally acceptable male sexism goes out of fashion soon. I don't understand why otherwise intelligent people adopt such irrational and paradoxical identity politics. You can't fight perceived sexism with yet more sexism. Focus on concrete situations.
