People constantly try to interpret what the mind is doing using analogies ("memory is like a filing cabinet..."). But my least favorite kind of analogy is when deep learning people compare properties of the mind to ad-hoc deep learning concepts. You people should know better

Losses, gradients, backprop, dropout? Sorry, but you might as well bring up kernel functions or hinge loss

Human mind is programmable & a quamtum computer of sorts that you focus on something, the mind organizes to bring it forward, i.e. knowledge begets knowledge, specific knowledge begets its own. Military mind focus begets war applications usage, brute force focuses to destroy all.

IMO, concepts act as efficient compressors of information. Novel linking of these concepts is what gives us intelligence.

I think you are just having a bad day. Or at least the bit of my brain that works exactly like a k-means good/bad classifier thinks you are.

Getting drunk on occasion to help along the "dropout" is not a good idea then? 😂

mentalistic language in general is highly metaphorical, e.g. talking of knowing with the mass noun "knowledge", or believing/desiring in terms of "belief that ___", "desire that ___", like sentences somehow hiding in the head. Pretty hard to leave such preconceptions behind...

I need to improve the dropout mechanism in my brain not to run steadily into the same errors :-D
