It seems like they just barrel through and then massage the numbers, and have a pretty elaborate rationale for why that is okay. I am on the skeptical side in this debate, but I think it's odd to assume that no one involved thought about sampling error except us tweeters
Never assume that experts actually know what they're doing. As someone who deals with a fair amount of experts... you'd be surprised how often our shared reality boils down to make-believe.

I'm with you on that. But I also never assume that a programmer can correctly call bullshit on something outside of his area of expertise, simply by glancing at it. I'm caught between two fires here.
