Wish Twitter would remove the "reply" button, not the "like" button. That, and actually blocking the propaganda bots, would solve the toxicity problem instantly...

And quote-tweet, obviously, but that's just a reply with an even more toxic framing

Bots are the bigger issue of the two IMO. There's "Loud minority", and then there's "Loud minority whose voice is amplified 1000x by automation and real people reacting to the hostility."

How would you discover new interesting accounts without “reply”? Almost all of the good, not-famous-in-real-life accounts I follow I discovered through replies (and everyone who follows me discovered me through my replies).

But isn’t the point of Twitter having discussions with strangers?

Twitter is extraordinarily flexible. Some people only tweet, some only follow. Some want to engage in exchanges and some, like @fchollet, don't. Cheers!

I think they’re exploring the idea of *more* reply buttons: https://twitter.com/pandemona/status/1035581630180552704/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1035581630180552704&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theverge.com%2F2018%2F10%2F24%2F18018486%2Ftwitter-presence-indicators-activity-status-ice-breakers …

So a social media site should be entirely anti-social? This is a strong hint that “social media” itself needs to be re-examined and reimagined.

It seems that this story is a storm in a teacup. One remark from Dorsey blown out of proportion.

-ve aspect: tweets becomes less interactive, replies may include valuable info +ve aspect: reduced noise, may also include trolls, hate, etc.

How about @Twitter letting you choose which tweets can be replied to, retweeted, quoted? BTW, sorry for replying to your tweet :D
