The media only seems to muster outrage at modern fascism when it explicitly involves symbols from past fascist movements, like swastikas. The *essence* of fascism is treated as politics as usual, because it is wearing dress shoes instead of jackboots.
I suppose that's because the media does not know what fascism is, and thus is unable to recognize it unless it explicitly labels itself as such. Should have paid more attention in history class...

Since it is used only to describe Right authoritarianism it also implies a difference between Right vs Left authoritarianism or worse negate the existence of Left authoritarianism.

Anyone whose thesis is "valid political view X is gateway to extremist view Y" should be treated with as much caution as the person they are criticizing. Dangerously simple minded people, like a poorly trained NN, see everything as polar opposites and push everything to the edges
