Pretty much every horrific political regime of the past 150 years has centrally featured a cult of personality of the leader. This says something about those who seek power over others for its own sake

East germany didn't have a cult of personality around a glorious leader, it was however a horrific political regime. (Or did it and we just don't know him much in the west)?

It was a satellite state. There was a cult around Stalin however.
