It's funny how most tech people in SV tend to perfectly embody classic right-wing values, yet are classified (and self-identify) as leftists. I think that says a lot about US politics.

Most SV folks like social hierarchy (well, they're on top), have intense respect for the law and for rules in general, like fiscal conservatism, like the idea of small government, dislike unions, value entrepreneurship, embody traditional family values in their own lives...

There likely isn't a religious angle to their conservatism. And the consequences of not being religious makes them more pro science and socially liberal.
