Yes, and this is manifested in the perfectionist trait of a scientist, of an artist, of an obsessive. A Necker-cube type of compartmentalization akin to a narcissist-self-loath duality.

I find great to work with some colleague who is always skeptic and willing to prove that the idea is not gonna work. For me compartmentalization is hard to achieve!

This is a great point, François! When it's your own work, it feels very personal. Creating that separation will allow for the best end result! I'm definitely going to start incorporating this strategy into my own day-to-day routine -Emily

I suspect we may want to apply some regularization in the second step (i.e.; go easy on ourselves), otherwise we may suffer from mode collapse or optimization issues (i.e.; not creating the best we can).
