If you think the sky is made of solid matter, you may be afraid that it will fall on your head. You'll be terrified by the idea of a rocket launch: what if you hit the sky and break it?

The notion that advanced AI will "destroy" humanity is a bit like that: it's a reflection of a fundamentally flawed understanding of technology, agency, and the nature of intelligence itself. It doesn't even begin to make sense within a properly grounded world model.

Ahh, the great paperclip maximizer. An irrefutable thought experiment because it starts with the basis that it's a foregone conclusion.

This is exactly what someone designing a weaponized AI would say.

Computer and automation system did not do this, and AI would not either.

Been following you for a while. You frequently make claims like this, but usually don't show your work. I liked seeing your post on "The Impossibility of intelligence explosion". Did you ever respond to @ESYudkowsky's rebuttal? https://intelligence.org/2017/12/06/chollet/ …

I agree, this statement is wishy-washy. Isn't it possible that a strong AI simply won't care about humans at all, as long as they don't interfere with its goals? Those goals don't even need to be self-improvement. It might have different goals or not even care about existing.

Fundamentally flawed understanding of nature of intelligence? I think all species that are going extinct due to human activity will disagree.

It’s like we should be worried that ants will destroy humanity - much more likely humanity will destroy humanity

Why is it so obvious? With current AI or near future AI, sure. But how can you be so sure about any AI we might develop in the more far away future?
