A popular quote goes "if you can't explain it in simple terms, you don't understand it well enough" (often incorrectly attributed to Einstein or Feynman). I think a more accurate take is: "if you can't explain it in arbitrarily precise terms, you don't understand it well enough"

I love this. "If you can't program it, you haven't understood it."https://twitter.com/ali01/status/1033442345746751488 …

Feynman might have then pointed you to his other quote: "What I cannot create, I do not understand." :)

Yes! I agree with this, but let's be clear: Understanding the Big Bang would not imply being able to create actual Universes, but a simulation of the Big Bang.http://trylks.tumblr.com/post/168979889948 …

I think that's not correct. For example, you can implement quantum mechanics in a computer and still not fully understand the results.

I should believe the point stands at been able to implement it if you understand it clearly enough, NOT being able to understand it's result, There's a distinction there.

It means that you fully understand why deep learning works?

Absolutely not! Understanding doesn’t mean being able to explain it in ‘precise’ terms or any terms for that matter. You are assuming that language is sufficient for all experience!

am sorry but your anything-but-simple explanation is rather ruining your point. Even the definition is made more complicated
