Most AI problems have long tails -- like giraffes. Natural language question-answering, autonomous driving, fraud detection... To perform well on the long tail, we must go beyond pattern recognition (what deep learning does) and develop systems capable of abstraction & reasoning.

Going by the current framework, solve any problem, we have to formulate a objective fn, which is the optimised, in case pattern recognition, it is relatively easy, how to form a objective fn for abstract thought is a million dollar question?

Do we yet have agreement on what constitutes abstraction and reasoning? It doesn't seem to be formal logic, while "analogy" is underspecified.

We need mathematical formalism for abstraction in AI & computer science in general (not category theory), which we will have "soon" (on the scale of scientific progress)

What is abstraction anyways? A higher-level representation that's invariant to small perturbations/irrelevant details? Seems like a lot of recent work using the latent space of autoencoders for decision making in RL would then be on the right track

I think a good world model that can be improved without rewards is important. Also probably a hierarchical layout so we can choose actions on small and large timescales and plan ahead based on the goal and the world model.

.@fchollet: I believe that Level 0 to 5 with 80/20 with #MechanicalTurk would the best tactic with a holistic strategy, validation test sets, and brute-force training set with random sample. #USA1 42 #NWO How about anti-AI training to break down the AI?

At @PROWLER_IO we couldn’t agree more. We use abstraction and reasoning to make decisions using our #VUKU platform using research by @jameshensman @dongho__kim @hbouammar @enriquedecote & their teams.
