In particular, the existence of a violent mass-deportation force that commits human rights abuses unchecked, is incompatible with a free society. Abolish it, and prosecute abuses.

Violence, in general, has no place in a free society. The reason why the police is given the option to use violence (as a last resort) as part of our social contract, is to *protect* people. The use of state violence for any other purpose is incompatible with a free society.

The ideal society would be one in which people could police themselves based on an ingrained sense of the Golden Rule, but I have not seen any evidence that any political entity, Left or Right, is capable of making this a reality. Hence the police, a necessary evil, if you will.
