In the far future, Virtual YouTubers generate shows on-the-fly to match your exact state of mind at this specific moment. Hopefully, we as users will be in control of the optimization goals pursued by these content generation & curation AIs. Otherwise, we'll lose our free will.
In the long term, we'll externalize our free will, like so many other aspects of our cognition today. We'll put an external information management system in charge of "manipulating" us into doing what we intend to be doing. If we stay in control, this should be greatly empowering

I can think of a few apps and one low-tech alarm clock that already accomplished this for me today. Tech-sourcing my free will is liberating insomuch as it manipulates me into following-through on the things that I intended to do in the first place.
Or an energy crisis induces wars which cause a global technology regression. And with that I'm not sure which version of the future yours or mine is the least optimistic...

How can we be in control once we’re being manipulated into feeling, believing everything it’s created to materialize our reality. That could be like modern zapping, instead the remote control is not in our hand, but in some algorithm we don’t control either.
It only depends on us If we focus on our growth & health, it will be profitable to give us more of that, economy will move in that direction If we let our whimsical appetites set the agenda, that's a much easier profit to make (greater ROI). We expect an electron doesn’t have a personal narrative in which it feels constrained. This human expectation is due essentially the predictive power of quantum electrodynamics. Unfortunately we haven’t yet been able to query the electron’s philosophy of free will.
The evidence so far does not support this optimistic view of humans "empowered" and "in control" of the aspects of cognition that some (certainly not all) have externalized. @EvanSelinger and @BrettFrischmann have a book about this...
