Product idea: a calmer, kinder web, which brings you focus rather than distraction, which guides you towards critical examination of your beliefs instead of radicalizing them, which helps you reach your potential instead of wasting it.
Hint: this product does not optimize for "engagement", nor does it propagate content based on overall popularity (which leads to lowest common denominator content dominating the landscape). And it does not shy away from banning Nazis.

I really want to make a text only version of twitter/reddit that uses NLP to penalize on sentiment/political content and also learns your preferences to rank based on your interests. Would be awesome to add MT on top of it and let people talk in different langs.
Translations wouldn't need to be perfect if you let native speakers vote / fix the top transcripts.
That all sounds great... but make it decentralized and incapable of global manipulation by design, lest it become a weapon. Sigh... I miss what Usenet was.
Usenet definitely had dark corners & bad actors; this sounds more like a call for an AOL-like service — which frankly might be popular commercial offering once again today (but would have to exclude the likes of facebook, fox,...and twitter 
). A sort of minitel, perhaps.
