I think the large majority of people in our community are good people. Let's keep it that way. Also, I think that if someone is being a jerk, it's your right to refuse to interact with them. You don't have to engage with someone who's being openly, repeatedly hostile.

Out of hundreds of decent people, a single serial jerk or harasser can cause an awful amount of stress. Lessons: 1) don't be a jerk. 2) it's okay to opt out of such interactions if you can. You don't have a duty to engage with people who are hostile towards you.

Btw, if I blocked you and you don't like it, repeatedly posting personal attacks/smears against me to your large Twitter following is *not* the way to prove that you're totally a nice and well-adjusted person. This stuff is *why* I blocked you. Normal people don't do this.

How long is a reasonable amount of cooling off time before you revisit a decision to block your own coauthor?

Know the difference between honesty & negativity. "No matter where you are, there's always room to grow. You came this far, now it would be a shame to just stay there". In analogy Gazains wrongly suppressed below even their humanity levels, their negativity is justified honesty.
