If you want to understand the history of passing in the NFL, this chart is a good place to start. 2020 was the highest completion percentage year ever (65.2%), and also the lowest Y/C year ever (11.1). Cmp% in BLUE against the LEFT Y-Axis. Y/C in RED against the RIGHT Y-Axis.

Will McDonald IV is a reach at 15, according to the Draft Day Predictor. Here's what the model thought his chance to be available was at the time the Jets were on the clock. Note, the chart starts at 22 because it didn't consider his range to begin until around then.

I do think they have at least guarded against catastrophic risk where Rodgers gets hurt, WIlson is the QB, and the Jets pick in the top 5 next year -- in that scenario, they keep their 1st round pick. And they can (and should) bench a healthy Rodgers if the team starts 2-8.

It's chasing tail outcomes -- the Jets traded much more than I would have for Rodgers. But they were out of options, and doing something with a 20% chance of working out that will be worth 10x the downside if it doesn't. But that would have been true if they paid less, too.

There is a small chance this causes the Jets to win the Super Bowl. So from that perspective, the cost is well worth it. IMO, more often than not, this trade looks bad for the Jets in 5 years. But the times that it *doesn't* will look really, really good.

The Jets were desperate for a QB and traded a lot for Rodgers. Not dissimilar for the trade up for Darnold, when the Jets were praised for not caring about the cost to secure a franchise QB. This is similar: the Jets are (maybe correctly?) chasing the low probably outcome...

This is exactly the sort of thing an owner should be doing. A GM who is on the hot seat would be less careful about protecting future picks, but the owner needs to protect the long-term health of the franchise. Woody is smart to not give up a first or future first.

Woody Johnson doesn't want to guarantee a 1st after what happens with the #Broncos and Russell Wilson, according to @CharlesRobinson. The #Jets owner wants to add conditionals to the deal.

If you can't criticize Joe Douglas for overdrafting Zach Wilson, you've lost the plot. Wilson was a flawed prospect who only tantalized scouts who overvalued his huge arm and ability to make plays on the run and undervalued everything else.

Yes, plenty of people on Twitter argued over this but in front offices ZW was consensus #2. 23/23 GMs surveyed had it that way. SF & Philly tried to trade up. JD got it wrong. He takes the hit for that, but let's not pretend like it wasn't the consensus move.

From 2012 to 2021, the Jets drafted 4 WRs in the 2nd round. None of them gained 1,000 *career* receiving yards in a Jets uniform. Stephen Hill Devin Smith Denzel Mims Elijah Moore

Rodgers has $58M guaranteed salary this season. Packers can option it as a bonus and spread it over multiple years, but no avoiding it without a trade or retirement. Packers have to trade him if he won't retire

Like I'd both sides call each others bluff, how does it play out? I think the Packers can survive it. Gute should be saying "the only thing I can't survive is trading Aaron rodgers for virtually nothing"

Here's a graph showing career TDs (X-Axis) and career INTs (Y-Axis, in reverse order). You want to be up (low INTs) and to the right (lots of TDs). Can you find Aaron Rodgers? Hint: he's the dot which is the color of his team.

Great move by Miami as Tua insurance and I think this is a terrific landing spot for White. As good as it gets to be with those WRs and that offense, plus a realistic opportunity to play.

Miami is giving former Jets’ QB Mike White a two-year deal worth up to $16 million, per source.

Such a weird football analogy because I literally can’t think of any example analogous to this in football history and it also doesn’t even sound all that realistic?

The only thing more valuable than a decent QB on a rookie contract is Daniel Jones at $4M/year. Will give the Giants a window to really contend.

Have heard in recent days there has been progress between Daniel Jones and the #Giants. Getting something done by Tuesday doesn’t seem unreasonable. It sounds as if there will be a four at the front of the annual salary.

237 yards was the single-game career high -- exactly -- for each of Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, and Jim Brown. Willie Ellison had 6 100-yard games in his career, but a record 247 in 1971. Jerome Harrison had just 5 100-yard games, but 286 rushing yards against KC in 2009!

Norm Van Brocklin had one memorable game where his team won by 40+ points and he threw 40+ times. That was the only game in his career where he even threw 30+ times his team won by even 30+ points. He made the most of it.

First time visiting Pearl Harbor. Like the officer said to us, “This is not an attraction. This is a burial site. Pay respect to the crewmen who have been on guard for more than 70 years.” The attack killed 2,403 U.S. personnel including sailors, soldiers and civilians.
