First: if the government shuts down, Republicans own it. Not Democrats. Republicans are the majority party. They should have the votes to keep the government open on their own. They only don’t because some of their members are extremist hostage takers and showboaters.
Second: Dems usually help GOP out of this bind because we care about governance. We don’t want the public denied services or civil servants going unpaid. But if GOP won’t fix CHIP or DACA, they’re blowing up the govt for millions anyway. We have no reason to be party to that.
So if the GOP can’t pass their stopgap measure and the government shuts down, I say to them: good luck with that. Either negotiate with us, or yourselves. If you can’t do either, that’s on you.
There are SO MANY reasons they should shut down Govt. To Protect Mueller, to fund CHIP, to pass DREAM ACT to Pass Alexander/MURRAY
