All this panic from conservative pundits on how a unified Dem govt would nuke the filibuster, pack the courts, admit new states, etc, totally overlooks the fact that the GOP could prevent all this by, y'know, respecting the popular will and compromising on legislation.https://twitter.com/baseballcrank/status/1305878512373563392 …

The dilemma, as I have noted before: a Trump loss would be healthier for Republicans. A Biden loss would take the Democrats in even more unhealthy directions. But a Biden win would be much more unhealthy for the country. https://twitter.com/JerylBier/status/1305850123113635845 …

The only reason any Dems are talking about doing any of these things is because the GOP has become a radical minoritarian insurgency that has spent years consistently grinding the system to a halt to impose their will against democracy, and there's no expectation they'll stop.

I mean, people like Ted Cruz were straight-up saying in 2016, if Clinton won, they'd reject her legitimacy, keeping Scalia's seat vacant 4 years, even immediately starting impeachment! If the GOP doesn't want democratic rules rewritten, they could start by ... not doing that?

All of those things would be small d democratic too. Why is it ok to say you want to deny people the right to vote or make the Senate work more as intended?

Dude's entire existence centers on denying women the right to choose abortion and control their own bodies. He's terrified of anyone other than white men having power and self-determination. If you took abortion out of the equation he'd be fine with a Biden win.

"All you have to do is give us everything we want, and then we won't have to hurt you!" I acknowledge these norm violations are within the power of a unified Dem government. But if the best argument you have is "We really wanna!", that's not convincing.

The abject delusion that its the Democrats that have become extremists is upsetting to say the least. Republican party policy is the most conservative in the OECD.

"Let us have what we want or we'll blow up the system" isn't as persuasive an argument as you think it is.
