Seems better to ban the people making the actual threats. And, I agree with that last point which is why I think all these tech companies are helping him by backing him and his fans into a corner and cutting them off from the rest of us sane people.

Have you ever spoken to an Alex Jones listener? I have. Believe me, the *only* method for dealing with someone that insane is to marginalize them. I'm not going to have a debate with someone who thinks red is a number or owls are a type of spice. Same deal.

That's not dealing with them, that's keeping them away from you and us while hoping they don't become a more serious problem. And, for the record, I know several Alex Jones followers, both of the ironic and nonironic type.

Banning them from public spaces isn't going to make their radicalization or their persecution complex any less severe.

Nothing is. Nothing at all. But private companies hosting their content for free regardless of what TOS violations they commit certainly won't help matters.

How these companies interpret their overly broad policies is up to them, that's not for me to comment, but I do think some of these people could be reached with sufficient engagement. Call me an optimist.

You have an admirable view of human nature. After six years on this platform, I personally consider it a victory if I just expose flawed thinking in the public eye. Encountering different-minded souls who are open to other viewpoints is delightful when it happens but far between.

I would like to think I would be open to changing my mind in the face of new evidence or a new argument just as I like to think every one of my followers would be as well.

I think the problem stems from there being a platform that allows the hate and divisive rhetoric to be open and obtainable. There needs to be a line drawn. This administration has allowed them to be more open and in turn it's becoming more unhinged and dangerous.

The paradox of tolerance as it were.

The basic answer to the paradox of tolerance is that tolerance shouldn't be thought of as a moral precept, but a peace treaty. Just as a nation has no obligation to honor treaties their foe broke, so we have no obligation to tolerate people who use their voice to target others.

And lets be real... nobody can stand up in defense of someone like Alex Jones and say what he is doing is for the good of people or trying to mend bridges. He's not. He's creating fanaticism and that is dangerous and feeds the people who already believe in conspiracies etc.
