⭐️Happy to announce my new tool "errwrap". A Go tool to wrap and fix errors with the new %w verb directive. For now it's simple and does one thing. I'm thinking to add further settings to make it customizable for certain usages.

Agree with Russ here. Especially with Go v1.12 there was some great improvements in the GC for large heap sizes. What is more interesting about the story from is, how they were able to use such an old Go version for a long time!

one Histogram per service for request duration, label for method (gRPC method, HTTP route, etc.), label for result (gRPC or HTTP status code), 10–20 buckets — should be no problem

gRPC folks using Prometheus to instrument their services. Do you enable Histograms for your metrics? If yes did you saw any performance issues with high cardinality assuming your gRPC service has tens of methods?

This is an interesting read: Seems like people are *not* so happy with configuring histograms buckets and come up with other solutions.

Also why do we need define the buckets manually? What's the meaning and benefit of it? If anyone could me point to some good books/articles about it that would be helpful.

There was a convenient way to instrument HTTP endpoints in the prometheus Go client. Seems like it's deprecated in favor of promhttp: Does anyone use this pkg? I'm curious which bucket values make the most sense for the histograms (i.e: req duration)

I've always heard great things about , but not sure what to think of this tweet. It's definitely not fun. There are probably over hundreds of engineers working there and I don't believe they gave the decision without thinking about the implications.

Woke up into another 5am, kid free morning and listening to this list of Turkish Female singers from the 70's Vinyl set (thank you for the suggestion), paired with a cup of coffee. Perfect morning 👌

I miss our kitchen appliances. The ones here (refrigator, dishwasher, etc..) are big and very noisy. If I ever buy a home here in the US, I'll make sure to buy European kitchen appliances. People who never used them don't know how much they miss.

Based on the replies Samara is the preferred Kafka Go client.

We've been using confluentinc/confluent-kafka-go for a long time. It's built on librdkafka so if you don't want or can't use a C dep it won't be right for you. That being said, it's been extremely reliable for us. cc:

👋🏻 we use and contribute to Sarama and would recommend it. Have briefly experimented with the segment alternative, but inspecting the code I wasn't sure about its protocol implementation. Kafka types are versioned and it _seemed_ to partially implement arbitrary ones

What is the preferred Kafka library people use nowadays? I've heard Shopify/samara is great, but there are also new packages like segmentio/kafka-go. In the past I've used bsm/sarama-cluster which is now archived.

Alright, so I used them. Without them, there was no opening until the end of March from DMV’s website. They’re scraping all surrounding DMV office’s until there is opening slot. I was able to take my driving test today.

Why is go.mod not a JSON, YAML, etc.. file and has its own format? I stumbled across this comment from on Reddit where he explains the reasons for it:
