If you have never studied how incredibly complex a 'single-celled organism' is, I suggest you do so in detail. It has complex DNA information. After studying all its components, explain to me how one appeared - complete with a reproductive system - out of "primordial ooze".

can be chalked up to god, but then it's really difficult to reconcile the idea that evolution was 'guided' for billions of years with multiple mass extinctions to get humans, that process being indistinguishable from random chance

Its irreconcilable in Genesis though, where the trees and herbs are created one day before the sun and moon, making it clear that it actually means days

I don't disagree - what I meant to suggest is that the ideas of God guiding the process of creation and the universe governed by random chance aren't irreconcilable, but I was unclear and probably mostly off-topic
