Here lies the danger: “The Trump administration wants the accord to be a model for future pacts with other nations in the region....” That is why all the other countries in Africa need to be involved in these negotiations through their Secretariat — the AU Commission.

What I find strange is that Tripoli was surely aware of what the Algerians are doing. Serraj still went to Berlin knowing Haftar was there! So what does Tripoli want? Not that Algeria supports Haftar. So what's behind this? Any insights someone?

Ppl criticized some for not speaking up when Bouteflika gave 250M. Rightly so. But one should not forget that we r in a different political context. To be coherent, one can only support the calls for transparency on decision making. The gov needs to learn to convince its people!

    2. How does this factor into Algeria's broader foreign policy? 3. Selling this to local audiences at the time Algeria is entering a difficult economic crisis. The gov has never been good at explaining how it uses money and it is only normal that ppl ask for accountability.

one should not dismiss first hand the criticism by some Algerians of this decision, which is more linked to internal dynamics within Algeria than opposition to Tunisia. 1. Our current regime shld not use public money to seek international legitimacy (dont think it's factor w T)
