You acknowledge larger variant of intelligence in men. While the effects are negligible on the average, they are huge at the extreme, which explains more men in highly intellectual pursuits or highly stupid jobs.https://fare.livejournal.com/107175.html
There are large effects at the extremes. But I'm going to go out on a limb and say that not all the people working in tech industries have an IQ >150.
Even for an IQ of ~130 (top 2 percentile), the difference in variance between male and female implies that there should be twice as many men as women. Google engineering recruits are around ~140. Top engineers are >150 indeed. The difference is even more dramatic.
And then there is the matter of different preferences and interests by gender. Even at same IQ, most women are just not interested in the same pursuits as most men, and those differences are only more pronounced in highly specialized jobs, whether software engineering or HR.
In conclusion, expecting uniformly equal outcomes out of vastly different and varied realities is completely unscientific. It's a superstition that stems from the religion of egalitarianism.
I don't expect equal outcomes and do think diffs in interest contribute to diffs in occupational choice. We just can't know how much of a contribution cuz sociocultural factors also strongly involved
Google' extensive diversity documentation says nothing about equal representation. It's a canard by people who want to say interests dictate where they end up, when in fact there are other very powerful forces at work (as you say, Kevin).
HR affords women and "minorities" preferential treatment. VPs were talking of insane targets like 30% of women hires in engineering, at least until their Soviet style planning was confronted with reality. Then they started blabbing about a training pipeline.
Funny thing, in a globally recruiting company, able makes, white people, Jews, etc., are the minority. Why are some minorities over represented? Because they actually comprise more individuals who fit the job requirements.
