In my dream this morning, I made up the word "augiy", meaning "a phenomenon of which people commonly misattribute the causes to the visible or imagined consequences, thereby they mispredict its behavior in predictably systematic ways." [1/3]

A typical augiy would be a political phenomenon like a government policy, whereby voters take at face value the propaganda about the declared intentions of the policy as being the reason why the policy is enacted; similarly the behavior of a political organization, etc. [2/3]

Once you see the augiy, you are, like Cassandra, both better equipped than most to understand the world and predict what comes next, and unable of convincing your fellow victims of the fate that awaits all of you as the augiy unravels. [3/3]

In my dream, it was an existing Hungarian word. My friend Bill P mentions the existing word "augury": "predictions" read by roman priests ("augurs") in the entrails of a sacrificed chicken or a flight or crows, that people would believe instead of seeing them as political lies.
