There is no cellular network in the 17th century, so even for the short duration of the device's batteries, it will be mostly useless. And you better be able to argue the case for being an angelic being using 17th century English theology, or will quickly burn at the stake.

As for showing technology to people who moments before were living in a technological desert, well, you do realize how fast Africa was equipped with cell phones, aren't you?
