IT IS WHAT IT IS Each morning, on her way to make a living, my mother passes that business, now closed, where— I’ve tried not to think of it— a man killed three Korean mothers just like mine. Her voice echoes, heavy, into the tunnel between us: What am I supposed to do? Be afraid? What am I supposed to do? In the tunnel between us, her voice echoes, heavy just like mine. A man killed three Korean mothers. I’ve tried not to think of it. That business, now closed. Where to make a life? My mother passes each morning on her way.

500 people in my lil town turned out for a city council budget hearing on Zoom to oppose an increase in funding for the police dept. It's almost 11pm, 6 hrs later, and there's still 300 people on. For hours, person after person has been calling to abolish and #DefundThePolice

One important part of this story is that Grace has ADHD and had an IEP that wasn’t being honored during the transition to remote instruction. By the time of her hearing she had been given the support she needed and was starting to get on top of things.

It’s sort of incredible to see so many others sharing similar stories. Suffice it to say that healthcare is a human right, and the market is, uh, generally not great at being in charge of distributing human rights. Even deeply capitalist countries seem to know this.

This might seem like a small thing, but I just saw a stat that in Georgia’s 7th district (which includes big Asian suburbs like Duluth), 41% of Asian American voters were first-time voters. That’s huge! Add that to the celebration of the amazing work that happened in GA ✨

Don't celebrate an increase of Asian American cops in the NYPD. The NYPD systematically harasses, abuses, spies on, and kills people of color. An Asian American NYPD cop killed Akai Gurley. Fuck the NYPD. And fuck all cops, including Asian ones.

I missed #NationalComingOutDay but 2020 marks 10 years since I started coming out (to myself, then friends). It also marks 1 year since I threw my stuff in a U-Haul and moved in with my love. It’s been a long, slow road, but I’m very, very happy to be here. 💕

This time last year I was scared and angry and still feeling hesitant about saying anything publicly about the rise in anti-Asian attacks. I’ve been realizing, slowly, how much I still have to learn and unlearn. Today I just feel this: heartbreak, rage, big grief.

I'll never forget the time in my freshman comp class when someone said something about putting butter in rice, and one Asian boy said "Butter? You just put rice and water in the rice cooker," and the other Asian boy said, "And press the fucking button," and then they high fived.

NO child should be incarcerated for not doing their homework, but this part of it makes me particularly infuriated and afraid for students who are Black and neurodiverse as school becomes something completely different while the school-to-prison pipeline remains totally intact
