lrt: claiming it's impossible to know what online communities like incels believe b/c of irony is deeply fucking irresponsible tbh b/c irony is how radicalisation & hatred mask & excuse themselves in online spaces

buying into the idea that it's impossible to understand what is or is not genuine b/c 'irony' also vindicates the internal logic of trolling, which relies on this notion that words & online spaces are devoid of inherent meaning

i say trolling here, b/c this is where it starts from. conceiving of incels as people who say horrific things about women just for the lulz undermines the impact that the normalisation of misogynist & racist discourses have on the people in that community, even peripherally

so long as we adhere to the notion that incredibly violent & extreme expressions of hatred in online spaces are largely just a form of trolling, there will be no way we can actually deal with the problem
