Fake History Hunter

@fakehistoryhunt

I hunt down fake history and fight it by throwing sharp pointy facts at its face. Rude, obscene, vulgar people who can't behave like a grown-up are blocked.

    Nobody knows everything, even people on the internet can be mistaken. On top of that our ideas and knowledge of the past changes regularly. If you have doubts about something, do your own research, check several sources, never trust anyone blindly, and yes, that includes me.

  3. Where does the story about Canadian soldiers come from? The photo is generally titled; Boy with pan on his way to soup kitchen. Amsterdam, spring 1945. No mention of Canadians. Also the photographer deserves to be mentioned; Emmy Andriesse

  4. Not 1950s but circa 1937: African American flood victims lining up to get food and clothing from a relief station in front of a billboard proclaiming WORLD'S HIGHEST STANDARD OF LIVING/THERE'S NO WAY LIKE THE AMERICAN WAY. The photographer deserves mention; Margaret Bourke-White

  5. Obviously not from the 1970s.... Here is a more likely description from , a site that actually cares; The Jersey Shore circa 1905. "Along the beach, Atlantic City, N.J." Check out the link, you can see this photo in amazing detail;

  6. Photo was taken in Vizinada, Croatia (back then called Yugoslavia), not in Mexico. The chap on the left is film director Brian G Hutton, the woman is unknown.

  7. Well it is a start, but I somehow doubt they'll start doing this with manipulated photos and videos from the past.

    Wow so her son made this photo a DECADE before he was born! That is very impressive.

    This image of "Children playing with a toy guillotine, France 1959" has been shared across the internet. It is actually a still from the 1951 comedy film La Poison about a man who wants to assassinate his wife while avoiding the guillotine, abolished as capital punishment 1981.

    Only 20 years off. Photo taken in 1946, the cars and fashion are a clue.

    This photo shows the traditional slow car race in Montmartre ( la course de lenteur à Montmartre), in Paris, 1954. The fashion is a clue and the number on the car.

    Interesting caption. In any case, that’s part of an art project from 2011 consisting of staged/edited vintage-style photos

    This photo wasn't taken in the early 1900s but in the early 2000s. It is a portrait of Sebastian Horsley by Gabriella Meros. More information here;

    Yes those trials happened but it is a bit weird to illustrate this with an 19th century (about 400 years after the Middle Ages) painting of the trial of Bill Burns where an animal was not on trial but its owner was for animal cruelty.

    This picture is often claimed to have been taken during the Jan 31 1919 street battle or Battle of George Square but it was actually taken Jan 1918. Julian Tank, #113, was in Glasgow to sell National War Bonds & War Savings raising more than £14 million

    Yeah but no. You may have noticed that the soldiers here are German Fallschirmjäger. If Wojtek had been helping them, he wouldn't have been known as a hero but as a traitor. Here is the original photo, look, magic, Wojtek has changed shape!

    Spend way too much time today looking into this but it was worth it because I managed to push the date of the very first gay kiss broadcast on US TV back by 2 day to October 2nd 1975, 8pm! Well done Ian McKellen & James Laurenson.

    I couldn't resist... sorry.... But yes, I think, not sure, that this one might not be completely historically accurate, I suspect some photoshopping may have been involved.
